Insurance claims are regulated by the
Saskatchewan Insurance Act under
the Hail coverage section and are processed through the work of crop
hail insurance adjusters. The adjusters who work for Butler Byers Hail
are highly trained professionals whose job is to help the producer
determine the amount of loss and submit the claim for payment. There is
no charge to the farmer/insured for this service.
In the case of a loss, each of the parties
has specific responsibilities,
Producer/Insured's
Responsibility:
- check
fields regularly
- make
claim within 72 hours of storm
- fill
out claim form (included with original policy or available
through the local agent)
- accompany
adjuster to the field and co-operate in determining the
amount of the loss
- to appoint a Power of Attorney if a loss has been suffered and the insured will not be available at the time of adjustment
Butler
Byers Hail Insurance Responsibility:
- appoint
an adjuster
- process
proof of loss and make payment to insured
Adjuster's
Responsibility:
- to
provide an honest assessment that is fair to both the
farmer and the insuring company
- to conduct himself in a courteous, professional manner
- work
with insured to determine loss
- submit
proof of loss form to Butler Byers Hail
- maintain
strong knowledge base in a wide variety of plants and
plant pathology, soil conditions, growing conditions and
plant nutrients
In
Case of Dispute:
In case of a disagreement on the amount of a loss, there is an appraisal
process available, as outlined in the Insurance Act under Section 286 -
Stautory Conditions #15 "Appraisal in case of disagreement".
